German made 35mm coupled rangefinder camera. Most of the major manufacturers built inexpensive cameras to appeal to a wider market, and the Vitoret range is one such from Voigtlander. The Vitoret range was introduced in 1963 starting with the basic Vitoret and the range was expanded to include varying degrees of complexity up to the Vitoret DR with meter and coupled rangefinder. By this time Voigtlander was owned by Zeiss Ikon and there appear to similar styling influences between the Vitoret and the similarly aged Zeiss Contessa LBE in the collection. The Vitoret line ended in the early 1970s - about the time Zeiss sold Voigtlander onto Rollei. Later versions of the Vitoret DR appear to have the square ends as here. Most seem to have been finished in the obligatory black "leatherette", but this one is finished in this wood effect vinyl, which to today's tastes appears rather tasteless, but is unusual and quite striking. This may have been for the American Market only - as this example was kindly donated in December 2002 and shipped to the UK all the way from Texas by Henry Chavez.
